Miss Katie Geeck, a native of Chalmette, Louisiana, began her formal training with Heather Nuckley. She was a member of the Modern Conceptions of Dance Repertoire for four years. During this time she received numerous scholarships including an advanced scholarship to study at the EDGE P.A.C. for four weeks in Los Angeles, California. Upon graduation from Chalmette High School, Geeck assisted with choreography for the Chalmette High School Charmers leading them to many state and national titles. In 2005, she continued to train at The University of Southern Mississippi. Geeck received extensive training in modern, ballet, Bartineff Fundamentals, rhythmic analysis, music resources, dance history, improvisation, dance composition, classroom management, and teaching methods. She was also a member of the Southern Mississippi Repertory Dance Company where she performed in numerous student and faculty pieces. She also choreographed a piece titled “What Awaits” which was selected for their main stage concert series. Geeck attended the American College Dance Festival where she had the opportunity to perform in both the adjudicated and informal concerts. She also attended the Florida Dance Festival in Miami, Florida on a partial scholarship where she studied advanced ballet, advanced jazz, advanced modern, and improvisation/cool collaborative dances. Miss Geeck was awarded the Most Outstanding Dance Educator Award from the dance faculty in 2009. While at USM, Geeck choreographed for La Studio’s Hub City Dance Ensemble for three years. She was also the Performance Company Director for Hattiesburg Dance Alliance in 2008. Her choreography has been recognized regionally and nationally. She has also had students represent the Southern region at NYCDA’s National Season Finale in New York City as regional outstanding dancers. Geeck, a USM honor graduate, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Education. Upon graduation Miss Geeck was a faculty member at the Pensacola Junior College Summer Dance Workshop where she taught modern technique classes. She also traveled to New York City where she took class from Sonya Tayeh who is a featured choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance.” This dance year was Katie’s first year as a faculty member with Modern Conceptions of Dance. She taught ballet, pointe, modern, tap, and hip hop. Katie also choreographed dance pieces for Repertoire that was awarded high score awards. Miss Geeck was also a judge for Trist Middle School dance team tryouts as well as the American All Star National Dance Team Championship in Orlando, Florida. This summer Miss Geeck will be teaching ballet classes at the Summer Solstice Dance Intensive in Gonzales, Louisiana. She will also be choreographing competition routines for numerous dance teams including the University of Southern Mississippi Southern Misses. She is most excited to embark on another four day intensive in New York City for the New York City Dance Alliance National Competition and Convention.
